Frank Catalano – Cut It Out!?!
Delmark DE 501
Compact Disc (2009)
Jazz legend Louie Bellson said in his notes to this CD, “Having just performed 12 shows with Frank in Chicago, I can honestly say that I feel he is one of the greatest saxophonists on the planet! There is no question in my mind that Frank Catalano will follow in the footsteps of the masters like Charlie Parker and John Coltrane and push the boundaries of jazz where they have never been before.” On this early album the self-taught, 19 year old, bebop tenor saxophonist is also accompanied by Willie Pickens, Brian Sandstrom, Ira Sullivan, Rusty Jones and Robert Shy. Louie was 100% right...

"My debut CD for Delmark featuring Ira Sullivan, Willie Pickens, Brian Sandstrom, Robert Shy and Rusty Jones. Ira played with everyone from Charlie Parker to you name it. Willie played and recorded extensively with Eddie Harris in the 1960’s, became a band director for 25 years, then joined Elvin Jones band in the early 1990’s. Brian played and recorded with Joe Daley, Hal Russell, NRG Ensemble, etc. Robert spent a long time touring with Roland Kirk and Rust spent a long time with George Shearing. Needless to say, I had known these musicians all since I was 13 or 14 years old and they brought a great wealth of coolness to my life and this recording. Louie Bellson wrote the liner notes and was a great mentor, boss and friend."- Frank Catalano
