I recall on my drive down for this writing day, thinking "where are the new artists who bring that lonesome feeling in a song, that can make you feel something, where's the lonesome." I was playing with Larry Sparks at the time, and he is the king of lonesome!
I was also thinking about how Eddie Stubbs would say about an artist: "That was back when they were playing hungry". He meant, they were literally singing for their supper, not getting rich, for the love of the music. That to me is when music is real. Music for music's sake. Playing and writing from your heart. That was the kind of music Miss Dixie loved, the honest, raw, real stuff.
