River Slope Mine
River Slope Mine (4:28): The Knox Mine disaster was a mining accident that happened on January 22, 1959, that is widely credited with single-handedly killing the mining industry in the Northern Anthracite Region of Pennsylvania. The Susquehanna River broke through into the many interconnected mines, including the River Slope Mine, when the mining company illegally mined too close to the surface. A dozen miners died.
