Biography
Elliott Fikes is a multi-talented saxophonist who plays tenor, alto and soprano saxophones, and provides lead vocals in a raw and unpretentious, soulful style. Elliott was nominated by the Texas Music Academy for the 2008 Musician of the Year. He was honored as one of the top five musicians for the year.
Elliott began playing saxophone at the age of nine in a small Kentucky mining town. His love for the horn and his God given talent gave him the opportunity to begin a professional career while still in high school. He worked his way through school playing in local bands in Pittsburgh, PA. His senior year, he was discovered by a popular local recording group, Sonny and the Premieres. After a year with The Premiers, he was recruited by the Imperials, a recording and touring group out of New York.
Once Elliott hit the New York scene, he performed with Joey Dee and the Starlighters (Peppermint Twist fame), The Shirelles, The Coasters, Big Joe Turner and many others. He shared the stage with Janis Joplin and has performed across the country from New York to Las Vegas to California and points between.
He recorded in the 1970s on Capitol Records, and formed his own local bands performing all across the state of California. He moved to Colorado in the early 1980s, and relocated once again to Austin, Texas in 1990. He added singing to his successful sax renditions and his soulful vocals have become as popular as his sax instrumentals.
Elliott now calls the Texas Hill Country home.
He enjoys and performs all genres of music and says that, “music is the International Language.”
Elliott performs for all types of venues. Performances are energetic, gutsy and unpretentious with emphasis on a great time for the audience.
Elliott has assembled a talented group of musicians, each bringing a long list of accomplishments and experience. Band members include Laurie Bromley, lead vocal, Allen Richerson on bass guitar, Paul Haake, vocal and lead guitar, Phil Chidester on keyboard, and Denny Hill on drums.
