Sivil - Fir
I like that Ed has kept the root of his more traditional song of disenfranchisement, Sivl-Fir. Striking resonant piano chords punctuate the song; a snarling rebuke of a transparent society. The civil man with honest values exists. Ed is being true here – and his disgust for false economies and social lies is clear. In some ways this song could only have been written in the particular socio-political conditions of rural Ireland. It could appear twee written by a twat in a basement in Tooting, south London.
