Biography

What is a biography anyway? Can you the reader ever possibly know who Edward Tierney is by reading a few lines?.....

Before I wrote this I read about a dozen biographies from singer/songwriters and the same things kept coming up.Live performances of startling intensity. Distinctive voice. unique style. Amazing haunting melody and loads of other overly descriptive words.
I would agree that we must all sell ourselves to the best of our ability, but I recon artists have been using their biographies not to impress the people who will listen to them but to some majestic English professor somewhere on high who passes or fails you on how many buzz words are in your press releases and bios.

So lets get down to it!
Have you ever tried to write about yourself and found that when it comes to selling the positive it seems far more difficult than reaming out the negative. We always find it so easy to pick holes in ourselves and others. Its hard to praise, especially to give oneself praise so; I throw back a question to the biography writing exercise and ask,

what do you want to know??

Or would it be better for me to toe the media line and over feed my biography with OTT descriptive words? No, I wont do it; but I dont need to. We get lied to everyday by advertising and newspapers.

So how do I describe my music?
I have no idea; others will do that for me. In the past Ive been described as a cross between David Crosby and Thom York but you never get an unbiased opinion from your friends so I just take it as a complement. All I know is I love what I do , I love how happy it makes me to know I can play and write the way I can, I also know that I havent heard my sound done by anyone else before but, thats my opinion and you will have yours.

After that isnt the rest just hot air?

Am I supposed to tell you about my life now? I wont. But again, I dont need to.
So, I suppose Im coming to you now with a lack of bull and an open mind hoping you get what Im on about.
