Circus Leaf
CIRCUS LEAF

Eddie Lynn Snodderly / Drivin Round Music, BMI.,

A leaf floats in the woods and blows to my door and blowing like a circus blows around the world

There was a wagon hitched and standing
A stout man with a whip
We took off with a mighty jerk
Stayed close to the Missisip!

And the days were filled with wonder
Till the days had no name
And the only thing that mattered
Was to hold on to the reins.

Chorus:
Climbed up on the circus leaf
There I found my way
Found my love
Standing by a fire
On a cold December day

She laid her rings and jewelry
On a blanket by our heads
She wrote down our days on paper
Till the candle flame was dead

Till the canvas rope and wildwood
Did what time does to them
Our whims like bells and arrows
Crossed together in the wind.

Chorus:
Climbed up on the circus leaf
The wind stayed our ride
Never to see this place again
Only through my
Lovers’ eyes

The diary found was leather bound
With words as dark as sweet
And falling from the pages
Fell a red fall leaf
And it fell with grace and floated never falling to the floor and went floating out the window to blow around some more

Chorus:
Climbed up on the circus leaf
The seasons all in change
A hundred years floating
Down the river
You’re bound to lose your name
