“As in my last album Old Trails, the music on New Dawn tells the story of my life, says Tricia Eaves about her third full length release. “Every song reflects a piece of me and the life I have lived.
“I am driven to tell my story. This project is dedicated to my mother Ermalea Julia Eaves (who wisely forced me to learn piano) and my father Jesse Willard Eaves, who nurtured me on the ranch in New Mexico with horses, cattle, driving the tractor, hauling a horse trailer, and learning to hunt and shoot. They encouraged me to be an independent free spirit who loves good horses, good dogs, and dear friends. I am God fearing, fiercely loyal, and a truth speaker. Music is given to me by a higher power, and I am eternally grateful. I hope you enjoy each creation ‘cause my hands have been on each one from first thought to lyrics, melody, selection of musicians, engineers, arrangements, mixing, and graphic arts. Special thanks to Chris Jones, David Eaves, Troy Boone, and Brandon Green.”
Born to southern parents in New Mexico and now living in Johnson City, Tennessee, Eaves has been involved with bluegrass and roots music most of her life, joining her first band around age 10. After a career in law and business, she is now an adjunct faculty member in the East Tennessee State University Bluegrass, Old Time, and Roots Music Program. A vocalist and songwriter who plays mandolin, guitar, and piano, she has collaborated with many renowned artists including Adam Steffey, Hunter Berry, Becky Buller, Steven Mougin, Stuart Duncan, Jeanette and Johnny Williams, Louisa Branscomb, and Chris Jones. Featured in Bluegrass Today and Bluegrass Unlimited, she has been a songwriting judge for the Walnut Valley Festival’s NewSong Showcase the last two years.
Chris Jones, had this to say about Tricia; “I’m so glad to have Tricia Eaves back among our judges this year at Walnut Valley Festival not only for her impressive background as a musician, singer, songwriter, and mentor, but also because on a personal note, she was an important mentor to me and the person who drove a teenaged me to my very first Walnut Valley Festival!”
