Scott Holstein's uplifting, feel-good toe-tapper is an honest celebration of the true power of community, faith, family & friends.
Holstein's "Hillbilly Love" takes you on a whirlwind ride through a current snapshot of a life lived wherein the simpler things really do matter most; even more so in these trying times. It's the magic, mystery and beauty of a new found cultural evolution... written in the mountains and in the stars...
"'Hillbilly Love' was inspired by the love of my life, my wife Lynda, who is from up on the plateau in Jamestown, Tennessee. Lynda went to the University of Tennessee and was in the marching band. Lynda’s father Frank Alexander was on the 1951 University of Tennessee National Championship Football team. Both are proud 'hillbillies'. ‘Rocky Top’, a hillbilly classic, is the official state song for Tennessee and is also the 'fight song' for the University of Tennessee. We all love this classic hillbilly song. I grew tired of hearing the term 'hillbilly' used as a pejorative, so I decided to flip the script. I would instead use the word affectionately to say, 'I love my little hillbilly'. From those inspirations I wrote the title, lyrics and melody for my song 'Hillbilly Love'. I co-wrote and produced the song with my friend Scott Holstein." ~ Robert Weingartz
TROUBADOURS OF DIVINE BLISS RELEASE LIVE ACOUSTIC COVER OF "HILLBILLY LOVE"
July 7, 2021: In celebration of the 1 year anniversary of the release of “Hillbilly Love”, the Troubadours of Divine Bliss are pleased to announce the release of their new live, acoustic version of “Hillbilly Love”.
“The Troubadours have created something truly special and magical with their new live, acoustic version of ‘Hillbilly Love’. They took a great song and made it their own. Their signature vocals and enchanted harmonies are in full display on this acoustic gem.” ~ Lynda Weingartz, CEO - Hillbilly Love
“In our 25 years of traveling this world, we always look forward to returning to our little cabin tucked away in the hills. As soon as the tires hit the gravel road, we start to unload and unwind as we look forward to our little piece of paradise at the end of the path. It is a sense so sublime, and we could barely communicate how it feels until we heard ‘Hillbilly Love’," says Aim Me & Renee, Troubadours of Divine Bliss. "'It’s a magnificent feeling’ …it’s ‘a unique way of living’…it’s ‘the most awesomest-ever’ …it’s called ‘Hillbilly Love’!"
Aim Me & Renee continue to say, “Since that magical evening, we have been singing along with this ‘cultural evolution written in the mountains and the stars’. We are two people who try to ‘lead by living’ and ‘be true to who (we) you are’.
One evening we got so inspired that we decided to cover this incredible, supercharged anthem with which we feel so much kinship. We turned on the camera and captured a live, acoustic version of ‘Hillbilly Love’ to share with all of you. May it inspire you, as it did us, to renew your appreciation and dedication to this ‘unique way of living’ they call ‘Hillbilly Loooove’…!" Aim Me & Renee - Troubadours Of Divine Bliss

"Dana Cooper’s heartfelt tribute to friendship, aptly titled “Always Old Friends,” stirs up the sentiment in ways that are both affecting and inspired. Given its resilient refrain and depth of emotion, it serves as a reminder that even in these days of division and distrust, we’re all still bound by the need to connect, while placing faith in friendship and the enduring bonds of kinship that sustain us throughout our lives. Both moving and memorable, it ranks a true anthem for the ages." ~ Lee Zimmerman, Writer, Reviewer and Author
“'Always Old Friends' mixes the realm of strummy commentary alongside deliciously melodic writing that ruminates with the power pop playfulness of Jackson Browne and the roll-up your sleeves simplicity of early Springsteen." ~ Glide Magazine
"'Always Old Friends' was a song that I have been wanting to write for many years. I was looking for just the right singer / songwriter as a writing partner, a 'troubadour of the people'. Someone that could both write the song with me, and then share it with the world. A unique talent, an artist with a lifetime of true, real-world experience, a troubadour extraordinaire that could deliver a simple story so powerful, so truly soul-touching that it compels everyone that hears it to stop and think of at least one old friend or family member… if only for a moment. That vision for this song was realized with my uber-talented brother of the pen, Dana Cooper. My hope is that after listening to this song, this story told, people will walk away with a smile on their face and a tear of joy in their eye." ~ Robert Weingartz / Co-Writer & Co-Producer – “Always Old Friends
"When my dear friend Robert Weingartz shared with me his inspiration for a song called 'You Can’t Make Old Friends' I was immediately intrigued. As we worked together bouncing different lyric ideas, melodic and rhythmic approaches back and forth the song began taking on new life. Based on our own friendship Robert and I came to the conclusion that our song had now become 'Always Old Friends'.
Haven’t we all met a complete stranger and felt an immediate kinship as if we had been friends all our lives? And haven’t most of us lost such a friend only to carry their memory through the rest of our days?
When I formed another immediate friendship with the multi-talented Dave Coleman he and I decided to record my next project together. The message of 'Always Old Friends' became our centerpiece as we built the track with Dave playing electric guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards. The addition of Jonell Mosser and David Starr on vocals brought even more soul and meaning to the song. Robert Weingartz leant his considerable expertise and production skills to the final arrangement and mixing of the track. The uplifting result is a testament to the depth of what friendship and dedication can accomplish.
Every time I sing this song I think of the enormous loss suffered all around this world in the last year and a half. All those friends waiting for us where the song never ends." ~ Dana Cooper / Co-Writer & Co-Producer – “Always Old Friends

“There is a truly wonderful story behind the writing of ‘She Likes To Crash’. My good friend Jim Hornaday and I were returning to Phoenix, AZ after a very cool trip to Coachella 2004 for 3 days. We started talking and writing about this beautiful girl we knew that was always getting into trouble, crashing and burning with an elegant, artsy style. She was both dangerous and captivating. Upon our arrival back to Phoenix we shared the lyrics and concept with our singer Scottie Briggs. He immediately grabbed the lyrics, and armed with our concept he returned the very next day with a completed song. The song was recorded the very next week and became the first single from the already completed and much-anticipated debut album for the Reign Kings, ‘Bloom’. This song was a perfect fit in the soundtrack for the movie ‘The Champagne Gang.” ~ Dr. T. Roberts

“’Soul Seed” was a brand, a concept and an album title that I created for a record I released on my label, Lazy River Records, with an artist I was managing and producing, Andy Joslin. I was glad to contribute to the writing of this song. It is a very powerful question to self… “who am I, what am I running from and what am I evolving into… ‘Soul Seed.’” ~ Robert Weingartz

"'Street Sage' was an amazing adventure in the streets of Hollywood, CA. I spent a day with an old, sparkly-eyed homeless man living his life, through his eyes, his struggles and even his odd happiness. For breakfast we drank 40 ounce Old English 800 malt liquor in a stairwell and ate hamburgers from Jack In The Box. We travelled the sidewalks with his grocery cart, hanging out in shaded areas and smoking American Spirit cigarettes. Life through his eyes with all the insults he endured in a single day was tragic and disturbing… he still smiled and blessed all that passed by us. During our feast of a Mexican dinner we ate well, toasted expensive tequila shots while he told me interesting, magical and grand stories of his youth lived within the famed music scene of Haight Ashbury in San Francisco during the sixties. His name was Anthony… we dubbed him Sir Anthony… the original 'Steet Sage'." ~ Robert Weingartz
