Ranch Truck
RANCH TRUCK
written by Doug Moreland, ASCAP (composer/author and publisher)
Just take the ranch truck if you’re going to town
You can tell by her looks, she’s been around
Paint’s a little faded, lost her shine
Something my wife don’t like to drive
But if you’ve got to go to town, and you really gotta go
There’s a few things you need to know
When you check the air in the left front tire
There’ll be a screwdriver hanging on bailing wire
Grab it there, under the fender
You’ll need it to open the door to get in her
Careful where you sit, there’s holes in the seat
Sometimes the springs poke holes in my jeans
Take the vice grips and roll down the window
Take the screwdriver and stick it in the keyhole
Lift the handle from the outside to get her good and shut
Hit the gas three times, say a little prayer, she should crank right up
She’s a little loose in the front, the brakes are gone in the rear
No headlights, pulls to the right, quite interesting to steer
She rattles, she bangs, she feels pretty rough
Around here we call that ranch-truck-tough
So, if you’ve gotta go to town, and you’ve gotta go pronto
Take the ranch truck, she’ll go ’til she don’t go
I take the ranch truck for just about any job
She’s my go-to tool for anything I’ve got
Pulling calves, hauling dirt, stretching fence to make a water-gap work
One time we had a wreck out there on the ranch (It was a horse wreck)
And she had to be used as an ambulance
The guy says, “Man, we need to borrow your truck”
I said, “Ok”
He goes, “Where’s the keys?”
I said, “Well it doesn’t take keys.”
He goes, “Well how do I start it?”
I said, “Well I gotta tell you.”
He goes, “Well tell me fast, we’re in a hurry.”
I said, “Ok…
