Biography
Hi I am Don Smith - I have loved traditional country music for as far back as I can remember. Even as a youth in the 3rd grade, my teacher had me sing at the Topsham Grange Hall and I received a standing ovation. At 15 years of age, I taught myself to play the guitar. As I approached the ripe old age of 17, I was offered a radio spot over W.C.O.U. in Lewiston every Saturday morning at 7:30am. Then, Eben West offered me another job with him over at W.L.A.M. (also in Lewiston) at 1:00 in the afternoon. I spent 6 years in the service of my country and was lucky enough to get into special services where I had a lot of opportunity to play and sing my country music.
Back then, it was real country music. I am not associated with any bands at the present, but have enjoyed success with 2 bands that I formed myself--first the Mavericks (no affiliation with today's Maverick band) and second, The Break of Don, in which I played rhythm and lead guitar and sang lead vocals. In 1992, I started sending my music to different publishers without luck.
My beloved wife, Sheila, who also sings, was my lone inspiration by now. I had been winning many awards and trophies for writing. However, I finally got noticed by publishers after sending many demos out. I now continue to have success as a songwriter with many song releases available on Compilation CDs. Check out some of my songs by clicking the Music - (Old Radio) icon - on the top corner of this page.
My songs have been recorded by many various demo artists, such as B.J. Shawd, Shawn Haney, Tom Walker, Philip Clarkson, Don Sandifer, Bob Stamper, Roger Eidenburg, Wally Storm, and Grand Ole Opry great Ernie Ashworth, just to mention a few.
