Andrew Calhoun - Heavy Log
15. Heavy Log Elegy for friend and mentor, the great Chicago songwriter James McCandless. With Eli Broxham, bass; Howard Levy, harmonica; and Chris Vallillo, electric slide guitar. The title phrase is taken from a song collected from railroad workers and published in Mellows, a Chronicle of Unknown Singers by R. Emmet Kennedy (1925). It was my aim since youth to write a song which communicates entirely through the image; here it is.
