Honeyboy was living in Hoston, Texas in 1951 when he first recorded this song, which he wrote. He recorded it for the small local label ARC, owned by a doctor's wife Mrs. McCollum, who also recorded and booked pianists Amos Milburn and Thunder Smith, as well as guitarist Lightnin' Hopkins.
Some masters of ARC were later acquired by Chris Strachwitz, owner of Arhoolie Records, who reissued Honeyboy's 1951 version of this song on a Blues Classics LP.
The ARC label which Honeyboy recorded for is not the one erroneously listed in his Wikipedia article.
