Alan Lomax Introduces David Edwards
This track is Alan Lomax starting his taping of Honeyboy Edwards in Clarksdale, Mississippi on July 20, 1942 by introducing Honeyboy.
This track is one of about 20 recorded by Lomax on July 20 and July 22. Lomax was doing field recording for the U.S. Library of Congress. He saw Honeyboy singing and playing solo acoustic guitar and harmonica on a neck rack, in front of the Friars Point, Mississippi court house. Lomax approached him, got his address and came to see him a few days later to record him. The recording sessions took place at a Rosenwald School which was closed for the summer.
