Portland, 7am. Drinking tea with Dave. A little wren flies to our window, flits from left to right, hovers, staring at us. Flits across the window again, stares at us. Back and forth the little wren carries on. Suddenly it flies away. "I had a dream last night about a bird that looks just like that," Dave whispers. Later that afternoon, I look up from bookkeeping. The little wren appears and repeats the same, fervent back and forth across our window. That night Dave tells me about his dream. After dinner he picks up his guitar and starts playing Little Wren. The song is flying through his fingers, from my lips. And just like that, it is gone. -Kara
