Cashed In My Old Life

Well I cashed in my old life for the one that you see now
It don’t mean that I’m a loser, it just means that I know how
But I’d give away life’s shiny things just to see you one more time
Are you a warm light here beside me or a poison in my mind?
I thought the last tears that I’d cry for you had already been shed
I claimed a million times “it’s over” and a thousand times we’d wed
Now I’m lonesome on the highway, there’s no one to take me in
Nobody knows where I’m going, not my ex-lovers or my next of kin
Now I might do some things that don’t make sense to you
And I’ll ask you please forgive me if I seem a bit confused
You call me and you tell me that you don’t have no regrets
Someday you might be lonesome, I’ll be damned hard to forget
I cashed in my old life for the one that you see now
It don’t mean that I’m a loser, it just means that I know how
