After I Died

Give back the sun, give back the wind, give back her long and flowing hair
Please let me break this silence, that has left me here
My work’s undone, my fields untilled, all the leaves have turned to gold
The shadows have grown dark and long and she cries for me I’m told
Her clothes were white, her eyes were blue, as she waits for me at home
The silence that has trapped me here has left her all alone
The day death came and found me here, I stood beside life’s road
That travels far and wide and back and ends in Winter’s cold
Our Summer’s gone and I am done, dead and buried beneath the grass
While I rot into the soil, I slip into the past
It’s not that I deserved a life, any sweeter than my own
I just wanted to see what grew from the seeds I’d sown
Give back the sun, give back the wind, give back her long and flowing hair
Let me break this silence, that has left me here.
