The Goodbye Kiss

They were lovers, they war best friends
Each had a role to play to the end
But they war both young and in between
Where they were going and where they had been

A shower of light fell from the sky
Fireworks faraway on the 4th of July
He made a promise and kissed her goodbye
Brushed away her tears, said "Baby don't cry"

We are all looking for happiness
But sometimes you have to settle for less
He never came back, he never returned
She wonders why but never learned
she looks out on the cold winter sky
And brushes away the tears from her eyes
She still remembers the goodbye kiss

She stares out at the dark winter night
sky filled with stars blazing white
Floating like diamonds to a far off sea
On an endless river to eternity
