“The fresh collection of songs explores the timeless tenants of bluegrass while lyrically delving into modern themes, with tracks dedicated to self-reflection, human brotherhood and even PTSD. Each one is imbued with the youthful energy of Tyminski’s brand new band. Tracks include “Silence In The Brandy” detailing the struggle of a lone soldier, “Never Comin’ Home,” which laments a love that’s gone for good, “Never Met a Stranger” that embraces friends we’ve yet to meet and “Ode to Jimmy,” a tribute to bluegrass icon Jimmy Martin.” - Lorie Hollabaugh - Music Row Magazine

“Throughout the collection, Tyminski and his band offer expert instrumentation to further elevate this well-crafted set to tracks, spearheaded by Tyminski’s raw, yet smoothly superb, lead vocals.” - Jessica Nicholson - Billboard Magazine

GOD FEARING HEATHEN

“I decided it might be time to try writing some bluegrass songs for myself for this project,” said Tyminski. “I think this is my best take on modern bluegrass music yet. I’m as excited about playing as I’ve ever been. I like to say that this record was ‘band produced’ – my band joined me in the studio and they tour with me as well.” - Dan Tyminski

Singing the praises of the hills and hollers, Tyminski’s “No Song To Sing,” remembers the comforts of home and expresses his gratitude for those memories as he laments: (“If not for the bluegrass way back in these hills, if not for those high lonesome strings, I’d have no love to call my own, I’d have no song to sing.”)

“Occam’s Razor” is the story of a love lost and the heartbreak that remains. (“You said you loved me with your smile/so I drew a strong conclusion that you’d be around a while/I never saw the goodbye coming ‘til you walked out the door/ now, I don’t think I’ll shave with Occam’s razor anymore.”)

ABOUT DAN TYMINSKI

Leading a brand-new version of The Dan Tyminski Band, the 14X Grammy® award winning singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has released, “God Fearing Heathen,” his first bluegrass album in 15 years. Marking not only his first bluegrass album in more than a decade, but also his first album of self-penned bluegrass songs, and the first time he’s taken the reins as producer, the project is a milestone along a journey filled with points of interest.

Adding fresh vitality to his modern-traditional sound – complete with hot picking, soulful dynamics and the full-bodied vocal fans around the world love– the album’s 10 tracks feature boundless acoustic energy. It’s his first self-produced project with help from multi-Grammy® award winning sought-after engineer Neal Cappellino at Nashville’s Doghouse studio.

Tyminski’s deeply personal lyrics explore not just the timeless tenets of bluegrass, but also his views on modern themes like self-reflection, human brotherhood, a life nourished by music and even PTSD. The narrative standout “Silence In The Brandy” is a prime example of the latter, detailing the struggle of a lone soldier before PTSD was understood, and highlighting the “blue” in bluegrass with a classic, harmony-laced sound. Others like “Never Comin’ Home” lament a love that’s gone for good, while “Never Met a Stranger” embraces friends we’ve yet to meet, bringing listeners in with a playful banjo and warm vocal harmony. “G.O.A.T.” salutes the back-porch heroes of American roots music, while “Ode to Jimmy” tributes a towering (if unpredictable) bluegrass icon – the great Jimmy Martin. He lays his soul bare with the titular "God Fearing Heathen,” reconciling his own inner contrasts with deep, abiding compassion. And with a new version of “Hey Brother,” he nurtures that same compassion in all of us – this time presenting the tune the way he first heard in his head.

Throughout his 30+ year career, Dan Tyminski has left his mark in every corner of modern music. Tyminski’s voice famously accompanies George Clooney’s performance of the Stanley Brother’s Classic song, “I’m A Man of Constant Sorrow,” in the film, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou and his vocal collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii on the song “Hey, Brother” was a global smash, having been streamed over 1 billion times to date.
