Memories of Mom and Dad
Memories of mom and dad

I remember as a child, I would sometimes leap for joy at the sight of my daddy coming home.
My mom would be so happy as he walked through that door with a great big box of groceries in his arms

Times were hard for mom and dad when I was a child,
But somehow we always seemed to have enough.
I wonder now that I am grown just they made it through.
It must have been my mama’s unfailing faith in God.

We would all gather round and look into the box.
I tried to see what dad had brought to me.
Sometimes there was a treat hidden down inside the box,
but mostly there were only groceries

My daddy was a carpenter but he sometimes drove a cab
Or he’d cut corn and work out on the farm.
While mom stayed home and kept the house, and made the groceries stretch.
And tried to keep four boys safe from harm

Times were hard for mom and dad when I was a child,
But somehow we always seemed to have enough.
I wonder now that I am grown just they made it through.
It must have been my mama’s unfailing faith in God.

Now that I am old and I have raised my family.
I reminisce about my childhood days.
How mom and dad tried hard to raise their children right,
and teach us every one how to pray
