Wayfaring Stranger originated from the southern Appalachian Mountains and has been traced back to the late 1700s. I have long loved this song which has been recorded by many, each singer making it their own. I have been playing this song with my son, Joe for many years and was so happy to note Wayfaring Stranger was a perfect fit for Crossing Jordan.

I am a poor wayfaring stranger
While traveling through this world of woe
Where there’s no sickness, no toil, nor danger
In this bright world to which I go

I'm going there to see my Father
I’m going there no more to roam
I’m only going over Jordan
I’m only going over home

I know dark clouds will gather 'round me
I know my way is rough and steep
Yet beauteous fields lie just before me
Where God redeems, their vigils keep

I'm going there to see my Mother
She said she'd meet me when I come
I'm only going over Jordan
I’m only going over home

I know dark clouds will gather 'round me
I know my way is rough and steep
Yet beauteous fields lie just before me
Where God redeems, their vigils keep

I'm going there to see my Mother
She said she'd meet me when I come
I'm only going over Jordan
I’m only going over home
