Old Virginia Hills
I’ve lived in the mountains, I’ve lived in Berryville
I never liked the city and I guess I never will
My home’s in old Virginia, high on the mountainside
It’s where I put my roots down, it’s where I’ll live and die

When the rooster crows each morning, we rise to meet the dawn
Work in the corn and cotton until the daylight’s gone
With supper on the table, we bow our heads and pray
Though our work is never done we thank the Lord each day

I wouldn’t trade this life for all the riches in the world
Not for all the diamonds, not for all the pearls
Everything we have, from the water to the trees
The Bible says to scratch the earth to give us what we need

On the cabin porch I’m listening, I can hear the whippoorwills
My spirit will live forever in these old Virginia hills

I wouldn’t trade this life for all the riches in the world
Not for all the diamonds, not for all the pearls
Everything we have, from the water to the trees
The Bible says to scratch the earth to give us what we need

I wouldn’t trade this life for all the riches in the world
Not for all the diamonds, not for all the pearls
Everything we have, from the water to the trees
The Bible says to scratch the earth to give us what we need

The Bible says to scratch the earth to give us what we need
