Home For The Harvest
Home For The Harvest
Cousin Joey’s in the army, he’s coming home on leave
Two bucks in his pocket, one stripe on his sleeve
Sister Jenny and her three kids, on the twelve-o-five
Everybody’s waiting for them to arrive

There’s ice on the river, there’s frost on the fields
The cider’s in the springhouse and the silos are filled
Now we’re all swapping stories, it’s been a long hard year
Everybody’s feeling thankful to be here

It’s a horn of plenty, it’s a place to share
Where we lay down the burdens that we bear
And the fruits of labor on the family vine
Bring us home for the harvest right on time

I say goodbye at the bus stop, throw my bags on board
With my mind full of memories and my strength restored
All the people around me with families of their own
Gonna take a little bit of that harvest home

It’s a horn of plenty, it’s a place to share
Where we lay down the burdens that we bear
And the fruits of labor on the family vine
Bring us home for the harvest right on time
