The Country Gentlemen’s
Calling My Children Home is one of the all-time classic bluegrass gospel albums. Doyle Lawson was a member of the band when these recordings were made in late 1977 along with Charlie Waller, Bill Yates and James Bailey, and his skills in song selection as well as on vocals and mandolin are clearly in evidence here. The fantastic title cut is perhaps the album’s highlight, performed a cappella. Other great tunes include “The Great Beyond,” “Where No Cabins Fall,” “Lord I’m Just a Pilgrim” and “Inside the Gate.”
