While recovering from broken backs, members of the Allen Thompson band decided to intentionally write songs that reflected their own influences and interests, instead of trying to sound like something they thought they ought to.

Taking a large leap forward sonically, at the adept hands of Rob Crowell (Deer Tick), with support from friends like Elizabeth Cook and Aaron Lee Tasjan, Brace Yourself covers subjects like divorce, depression, and disaster, in a way that draws you into the groove.

Ultimately, Brace Yourself is an uplifting record, despite the heady themes.

There is also a portion of the program about suicide prevention and special community center in Athens, GA, called Nuci's Space, removing barriers to mental health care for musicians. Nuci's Space is celebrating 15 years of suicide prevention services, and Allen Thompson and this program's host, Sloane Spencer, are co-hosting a live night of music in Nashville, TN, on Thursday 10/20/16 in tribute to Athens bands to raise money for Nuci's Space.
