Evening Rain
Evening Rain Written by Mike Burkholder
Subway cars and corner bars are where you make a home
Satin socks and pinned up locks slouched upon your throne
But your jaded smirk and faded skirt spin stories of their own
Of drunken fights and endless nights along the routes you roam
Bleeding hearts and broken glass no strangers to your scene
Neon glow and amber flow bystanders to your scheme
Around and round the wheel it turns and it’s a vicious one you know
When every guy that stumbles by is just a rolling stone
Evening rain upon the gutter
Same old pain upon the skin
Another night to bundle tight your gentleness and grace
To hide your tears behind a stranger’s face
I’ve seen you in the dancehalls and I’ve felt you in your pain
Patronizing every soul who’d throw into the game
But I’ve loved you in the twilight and I’ll love you just the same
When all the walls come tumbling down upon the tracks you’ve laid
Evening rain upon the gutter
Same old pain upon the skin
Another night to bundle tight your gentleness and grace
To hide your tears behind a stranger’s face
Evening rain upon the gutter
Same old pain upon the skin
Another night to bundle tight your gentleness and grace
To hide your tears behind a stranger’s face
