CLOSE ENCOUNTER

Well….
Late last night I had a close encounter
It was quite unexpected and it took me by surprise
When I came to my senses and I looked around
You’ll never guess what I found
It was the Devil himself, better known as the Father of Lies

He was sittin’ in the shadows when he looked at me and smiled
He said, “I’ve come quite a distance and I’ve got things you should see.”
So I moved closer, just a little bit
As he opened his bag of tricks
That’s when the snake in the grass went into overtime temptin’ me

That’s when I said, “Devil, you don’t belong here.
“Take all of your deception
And quickly disappear.
There’s sin and death around us
And I know you’re to blame
‘Cause a friend told me
And we both know His name.”

The room turned cold as the Devil stepped back and faltered
When he composed himself
You could see the hate in his eyes
He said, “I know this friend that you speak about
And I know there isn’t any doubt
He’s the Son of the One, who’s been a son of a gun to me
Promising that He will set ya free.”

Then he spit balls of fire
As he jumped to his feet
Then he crafted more lies
Making them sound so sweet
He said, “This can be all yours
The whole world and all its gold
And all I ask of you
Is your soul.”

I looked at what he had laid out before me
And its true temptation may have caught my eye
But a vision popped into my head
I saw myself cold and dead
And my soul eternally in a lake of fire

That’s when I said, “Devil, you don’t belong here.
Take all of your deception
And quickly disappear.
There’s sin and death around us
And I know you’re to blame
‘Cause a friend told me
And Jesus is His name”

Well, the next thing you know
I woke up sweatin’
And I wondered did I dream?
Or was it real?
Could it be true that what I saw
Was somethin’ playin’ in my mind?
Or was it a close encounter of another kind?
