Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer with Chao Tian - Pig Ankle Rag
4. Pig Ankle Rag (Traditional, Arrangement Cathy, Marcy, Chao, 2 Spoons Music, ASCAP) This country rag started as a ragtime piece called "Pig Ankles," composed by M.E. Williams and published in 1905. Gus Cannon and His Jug Stompers recorded it as “Pig Ankle Strut” in 1928. It was popularized by Disney, Oklahoma, fiddler Uncle Dick Hutchinson and fiddler Ron Hughey and was also known as “Pig Ankle Blues.” Sam McGee of the Grand Ole Opry played this tune and it’s made the rounds through the old-time music community. It’s perfectly suited to the hammered dulcimer and the mandolin and Marcy & Chao capture the playfulness that ragtime offers. Instrumental – Mandolin, Guitar, Yangqin (Dulcimer)
