Lavender Sky
Summer was almost over, driving highway 101 from LA
You looked right at me … wasn’t much that I could say
Well hey, I know, I should have known better
No accountin’ for the time we spent together
On our way to Carolina
Through the back roads of Tennessee
Had our sites set high, on a Saturday night
Sun was just setting in a lavender sky
Drove all day until we stopped at a café by the roadside
Hung around till dusk to catch a glimpse of the fireflies
Never knew I’d fall in love
Sharing tequila from a paper cup
On our way to Carolina
Through the back roads of Tennessee
We had our sites set high, on a Saturday night
Sun was just setting in a lavender sky
Sun slipped behind the mountain top
Headlights blinked on …US 99
We rolled the windows down
Feet never left the ground
I swear it felt like flying
Radiator overheated south of Birmingham
Made us two days late… didn’t really give a damn
Seemed like summer would last forever
Something good just kept getting better
On our way to Carolina
Through the back roads of Tennessee
Oh our sites were set high, oh… it was a Saturday night
Sun was just setting in a lavender sky
