Iraq
I Spend Most days
Just setting in this chair
And Staring outside
through the window over there
From here i can watch
the school baseball team
And watching them I see
A younger version of me
You know i was pretty good looking back
before i left for iraq

I signed up on the day
i turned 18
me and my friend joe
who lived down the street
over there on the table
is a picture of joe and me
somewhere in a desert
just two young marines
we were like brothers
we had each others back
But joe died in my arms in iraq

I used to share a room
with a soldier name bily jones
and Billy didnt talk much
from the day that he got home
i work one morning
found him facedown by his bed
and i tried my best to save him
but sergant Billy was dead
the note said i never made it back
and the best part of me died in iraq

You know im thankful
and i really can't complain
If i could only go back
I do it all just same
and some day when its over
and they lay me in the ground
high on a hillside
over looking our town
along side my brothers
we'll have each others back
and all those who didnt come home from Iraq
