Ever since, at age 16, when he wrote BY THE GLOW OF THE KEROSENE LIGHT, a song that has been covered dozens of times by artists throughout the world, WINCE COLES from Newfoundland has churned out hit after hit. Wince's songwriting talents are represented in this collection with five songs, SANTA'S A BAYMAN LIKE US, LET THERE BE ROOM, MARY'S LULLABY, HOW DO HOBOS SPEND CHRISTMAS and LITTLE JIMMY'S CHRISTMAS.
Newfoundland's Vaughn Rowsell hails from a musical family. Bobby Evans is his father, George Rowsell his uncle, and Eddie Eastman his cousin. As a teenager he recorded as Lee Vaughn. Nowadays, when not recording and performing with his group COBBLESTONES, Vaughn performs as Vaughn Rowsell.
Vaughn is also one of Canada's most successful concert promoters. As if promoting concerts and performing doesn't keep him enough, ON THIS CHRISTMAS DAY, is evidence of Vaughn's songwriting capabilities.IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME is co-written and performed with Ronnie Power, a member of Cobblestones and one of the founding members of Irish Descendants.
His fantastic versatility coupled with hiS authentic personality made the late A. FRANK WILLIS one of the top performers, not only in Newfoundland, but in the whole of Canada. HELLO MOM AND DAD and A LADY LIKE MOM are perennial Christmas favourites.
Born in Trinidad and now resident in Toronto HENRY GOMEZ aka KING COSMOS is a leading figure in Canada's Caribbean community. In 1995 he won the Canadian Calypso Monarch title. He is a founding member and the chair/secretary of the Organization of Calypso Artistes. DAISY and SANTA BRING MI BABY HOME are examples of his successful compositions.
The late Dermott O'Reilly was a leading figure in Irish-Canadian folk scene. After years of travelling and recording with Sons of Erin, Sullivan's Gypsies and Ryan's Fancy, Dermott retired from the road and formed Piper Stock Productions, a recording and production facility in St. Johns, Newfoundland. His compositions such as A CHILDREN'S WINTER, Candlelight and Wine and West Country Lady have become favourites throughout the world.
At age 8 Toronto's MANON ZLAMAL was thrown out of the school choir. Her teacher told her she had no musical capabilities. Manon was determined to prove her wrong. In their teen years Manon and her sister Lillian formed the group Skyliner, a group that enjoyed worldwide sales and performance successes. Their song, YOUNG FOR CHRISTMAS, was inspired by the most beautiful Christmas story, It's a Wonderful Life.
The musical headquarters in Carmanville, Newfoundland is Ches March's A&P Music. Whether it is the purchase of musical instruments or giving musical lessons, Ches is there to help. Sundays find him participating in the church service at Bethel Pastoral Charge on Random Island. Still Ches finds time to perform and write such beautiful works as MERRY CHRISTMAS JESUS.
