Jon Burrowes - Love Not Given
10. Love Not Given
So here's a song we old guys sing
Mostly when we're remembering
Missed romances - and beautiful women
The years of work, and nights of grief
Searching quietly for relief
From loneliness, and especially love not given
This lovely evening –
Not much left to fake
But oh, the music we have yet to make
‘Cause we could sing across the river
Promise-the-girls what we'd deliver – it was
Kid stuff – it was a young man's game
Now something in your cautious face
But here's your quiet, sweet embrace –
I couldn't be more grateful for this night
Tonight I can't begin to say
How much I’ve missed you, since the day
I met you – it’s never been
The same
That same old music,
but now they're playing it slow
But so what - where's there left to go?
And so my corny words can fly away
The stuff I mean but I just can’t say –
‘And here we go, just dancing in the light -
Oh what a night!
