Jon Burrowes - Coat of Memory
6. The Coat of Memory
Lovely memories sometimes fall
Into the pockets of regret
Later on, we vainly call
Has either one found true love yet?
Time that never comes again
Things forgotten, lost, denied
Now the dusty hands of age
Pull the coat of love aside
Should I now take off my shirt?
There it's written on my skin
You can see where I was hurt
What kind of trouble I was in
Back when we were young and new
Love came after us like prey
Didn't know what else to do
Said some things, then ran away
But that all happened long before -
Before the road began to glow.
We thought that life would give us more
We can't return, but
Oh - We long - to know.
