Jon Burrowes - Only Foolin' Around
2. (I Was Only) Fooling Around
Yesterday, I took a stroll, to a
Particular part of town
My old friends just smiled - they knew
I was only fooling around
I saw a pretty girl walking down the street
Thought I'd play the clown
Next thing, we were in each other's arms
I was only fooling around
I wish you'd known me way back when
How we used to get around
We lit the town up like a torch
Hanging out and fooling around
Now I'm out by the highway
Finally got to do without
Only reason I'm still here
Is I got used to fooling around
This morning - she asked me,
"Are you going to let me down?"
That's 'cause she was smart enough to know
I was only fooling around
, I know I promised her the moon and stars
Listen - I wanted them, too -
I told her, "I've never gone-this-far-with anyone
Else - except you -
I've been from hell to Kingdom Come
From ridiculous to renowned
I don't know what else to tell you
I was only fooling around
Maybe the next deal will clean me out
Leave me lying flat on the ground
But this is how I've always lived
Hanging out and fooling around
Some can say I'm running away
It's easy to put me down
All I can say is, after this,
I'm going back to fooling around -
I've been from hell to Kingdom Come
From ridiculous to renowned
I don't know what else to tell you
I was only fooling around
Hanging out and fooling around
What you get from fooling around
I was only fooling around
