Out On The Lake
Some cast their lot
Among the thieves
Though danger may
Be hiding there
I cast my line
Among the reeds
For that nine-pound beauty
That's lying there

Out on the lake
Dawn is breaking
Mist is rising
To meet the sky
Out on the lake
My heart remembers
The cool still water
And the wild loon's cry

My heart still aches
For those northern waters
The spruce and birch
That line the shore
I still can hear
My dad behind me
As I cast my line
Towards the early morn

I don't get back
All that often
Even though
I wish I could
But in my dreams
This lake I'm crossing
Is just as real
As my childhood
