"The Bows" are excited to bring our debut studio album, "Arrows", to global radio via AirPlay Direct. Getting to work with Producer and famed "Hot Rize" bandmember, Nick Forster and recording & mixing engineer James Tuttle at the renowned eTown studios in Boulder, CO was an incredible experience that helped to solidify the sound of this band. After presenting the material at our 2019 Telluride Band competition win, we discovered more about who we are as a group and learned to harness our particular energy and musical enthusiasm through live performance. We're now happy to share our musical introduction with you!"
-Bowregard

”Fortunately, while it’s a set of songs that’s deeply rooted in traditional realms, it’s a musical mix that’s sewn together with feckless picking, a strong collection of mostly original material, and an upbeat enthusiasm that reflects their obvious affection for their chosen genre...Indeed, the standout selections — Fallen Angels, A Reasonable Man, Cousin Sally Brown, Arrows and The Henrys — are also the most effusive, each a rousing example of contemporary bluegrass at its best.” –Lee Zimmerman, Bluegrass Today

“The affinity for the traditional and old-time is at the heart of who Bowregard is. Even with a blistering energy reminiscent of a rock show present in their live sets, Bowregard is guided by the beauty that can be found in the early traditional elements of bluegrass and how they can present that for a new generation.” –Tim Newby, Americana UK

BOWREGARD BIO

Bowregard has taken the Colorado bluegrass world by storm, winning both the 2019 Telluride Bluegrass Band Contest and the 2018 Ullrgrass Bluegrass Band Contest within a year of forming. Bowregard's "Arrows" is their premier album, recorded following their Telluride contest win, under the production of legendary Hot Rize member and eTown radio host, Nick Forster, at the famed eTown Studios in Boulder, CO. Bowregard's sweet and mournful vocal harmonies join nimble picking and strikingly original songwriting and arrangements that combine old-time music, progressive new acoustic music, and bluegrass into a truly unique sound unlike anything else on the front range of Colorado. Their onstage energy is undeniable, with the band working a single vocal mic to drive the crowd into a whirlwind that fills the dance floor and doesn’t let up until the last note of the night.

Bowregard continued working through their pandemic quarantine by completing a wildly successful crowd-funding Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of Arrows, playing a few virtual events including the IBMA virtual concert series. They've also been working on new material and singing the praises of great songwriters like Burle Galloway who contributed to this project. The schedule is beginning to fill again with post pandemic dates, and listening crowds can expect to catch them at such prestigious upcoming festivals as Telluride Bluegrass, and the limited Planet Bluegrass SpringGrass series among others still to come. Bowregard is Max Kabat (guitar), James Armington (banjo), Colleen Heine (fiddle), Justin Konrad (Dobro), Zachary Smith (bass).

SONG BY SONG IN THE ORDER ON THE CD

1. Fallen Angels (3:32)
Songwriter: Max Kabat
PRO:BMI

This song was written about an ex, a moment of discovery, and a moment of personal growth. We all try to live our lives without regret, but sometimes you just know you could have done better by someone. Walking away just isn’t the way to go when you’ve got so much more to say.

2. A Reasonable Man (Killdozer)(3:38)

Songwriter: words by Justin Konrad, music by James Armington
PRO:BMI

"Killdozer" was inspired by the attack on downtown Granby, CO by a disgruntled local, using a bulldozer covered in homemade armor. It's a piece of recent Colorado history that received a lot of news coverage. I felt like it was a fascinating story of small-town resentment and anger, though I didn't want to glorify the idea of using violence to resolve conflict. -Justin Konrad

3. Sage, the Western Basil (3:30)

Songwriter: Instrumental tune by James Armington
PRO:BMI

A beautiful banjo-led original instrumental tune.

"I had just finished a 3 week Rushad Eggleston bender. His music encouraged me to try and think outside the box from what I normally play. I started exploring with different things and wound up discovering the melody while standing in my underwear in my closet"

4. Formaldehyde ((2:41)

Songwriter: Max Kabat
PRO:BMI

"Formaldehyde started as some standard bluegrass chord changes that I was searching for a melody to go over. I had just watched a documentary on the Civil War and was experimenting with some lines when the themes of preservation came into my head. When the blinders of war are on and we paint our perception with broad brush strokes, we are perpetuating and preserving ideals that don't always die on the battlefield. This song is about being defined by your perception, and those ideals outlasting your time on earth." - Max Kabat

5. High on a Mountain (4:01)

Songwriter: Ola Belle

6. Cousin Sally Brown (3:18)

Traditional Instrumental tune arranged by Bowregard

7. Nothin' to It (3:40)

Songwriter: Benny "Burle" Galloway
Publishing:(Wayward Records Publishing)

A sentimental and heartfelt tribute to home, Mama & Daddy. Thanks to"Burle" for allowing us to record this tune!

8. Arrows (3:23)

Songwriter: Max Kabat
PRO:BMI

the self-titled single track from our album, Arrows touches on fighting through a relationship before, during and after, and learning to just let go and feel that feeling of loss. The pierce of love’s arrow can sting sometimes, and this one left a mark.

9. Flannery's Dream (2:35)

Traditional Instrumental tune arranged by Bowregard

10. The Henry's (2:56)

Songwriter: Max Kabat
PRO:BMI

The Henry’s is a tale of a western outlaw on the run through the desert and mountains of Utah. It’s a driver of a tune, and a great story that developed one day while sorting through my bookshelf; a kind of combination of influence from Roald Dahl to Edward Abbey.
