Ghost Song
Ghost Song
Verse 1
Must be lost, stopped the car, July ’64
Old country house roses round the door
Front porch, screen door, she walked through
One look into her eyes I knew
She said may I help you, what are you looking for
She cast no shadow sunlit porch floor
Her beauty I was speechless she smiled, took my hand
To this day I don’t completely understand
Verse 2
Two days later I went back to say
Since your love I feel far away
She wasn’t home I walked in
What I saw next left me wonderin’
Dust on the floor, yellowed curtains, everything aged and worn
Musty air, cob webs, parlor couch all torn
Wall paper faded in the kitchen and hanging in the hall
Dated 1929 there she was, a picture on the wall
Verse 3
Historical records I carefully read
House 20 years empty, that’s what it said
Her name Mary-Lynn, husband died World War II
She died broken heart, her love fine and true
Every July near the roses, green summer leaves
I stand on that front porch I believe
She wore a light blue dress carry me away
After all these years believe me when I say
Chorus
Was it love yaaa
Way she moved
Blue sky in her eye
Was it love yaaa
