Biography
Autobiography of Bobby Lee
Music has always been a part of my family. All the way from the back pews of New Bethel Baptist Church in Marianna, AR, I heard my mother, brothers and sisters sing. Hearing the harmonies and melodies inspired my love for singing at the age of 5.
I enjoyed performing in talent shows, singing and break dancing, beginning in the early ‘80’s. I was also involved in sports. It was when I heard my elder brother sing in a talent show in front of Lee High School that I made my decision to become a soul singer. As I matured, I listened to and observed my brothers’ and sisters’ testimonies of love, life and relationships.
I moved to Cincinnati, OH after high school to find my own way, away from the security of my family. There, I connected with Zach Adams and Mike Smith, forming the group RAM-Z. Through my love for music, I met the love of my life. She helps me to balance my love for music and life. She also inspires my creativity and keeps me organized.
While performing locally in Cincinnati, RAM-Z caught the attention of Top Cat Entertainment (based out of Canada). From this connection, RAM-Z released our first single, “It’s Your Move” in 1996, which went #1 overseas. Shortly after, TVT Records offered RAM-Z our first national recording contract. In 1998, we released another single, “Let Me Be Tha One” under TVT Records. Through this experience, I had the pleasure of working with Nokio from Dru Hill (Let Me Be Tha One), as well as Teddy Riley (who produced another RAM-Z release, “Trickin”).
My father passed when I was 25 and for years, I battled with the fact that I did not get to speak with him before he passed. I desired to know more about my bloodline history. During the struggle, my mother told me that no matter what, God has a Purpose for me and that it will be done. It was then, that I set out to find God’s purpose for my life and began writing my current project “Purpose”, hoping that this would help me through the struggle.
Here I am, 7 years later, with a completed testimony, knowing that I am a saint and a sinner, just trying to “Get Right”. With the company Hook Kings, LLC all believing that we are to “hook” souls for the Most High, this is a walk I don’t mind walking for the righteous.
