Bob Cheevers
Biography
Bob Cheevers’ musical legacy reaches back at least three generations. His Grandmother played guitar and piano. A beautiful, hand tinted photo of her playing the guitar, taken when she was 22 years old in1889, graces the cover of his Gettysburg To Graceland CD. And his Mom was a radio star during the 20’s/30’s singing and playing piano with the big bands.
His combo winning a talent show in 1957 singing Johnny Cash’s song Big River was the beginning of Bob’s performing career. Starting a band in college was the no-turning-back point followed by major label recording and publishing deals which were Bob’s entree to Hollywood when he moved to California after his college years.
More of Bob’s “claims to fame” include having used the toilet at Elvis’ Graceland mansion in 1963, helping build the stage for the Rolling Stones at Altamont (scene of the Stones ill-fated, free concert in1969), meeting a Beatle (Ringo) and personally being asked by Johnny Cash to accompany him on what would be Cash’s final tour.
Bob grew up in Memphis and lived in Los Angeles, Nashville and now Austin...four of America’s premier music cities. After writing over fifteen hundred songs, releasing six commercial CDs (two of which were Americana top 20) and music videos for two of his songs (which won a total of 8 Emmys including “Best Musical Composition”), Bob is set to release his most compelling work to date.
Toward the end of his 2006 UK summer tour, Bob was playing in Southampton and noticed a lovely woman sketching him during his show. Afterward, he was introduced to the artist who presented him with the sketch which appears in the moon on the cover of the new CD. Engaging the London artiste in a conversation began a mystical journey and symbiotic relationship that inspired forty poems and sixteen songs in a few months time. From this body of work came Fiona’s World, Cheevers’ latest CD of “Delta-Celtic music” which Bob translates as “Celtic tunes dipped in Missippi Delta mud”. Though a slight departure from the sound that won over so many “Cheevers Belivers”, it maintains the same depth and soulful delivery of his most critically acclaimed releases and continues Bob’s assurance that “I don’t know if these stories are true, but they happened to me”.
