BLACKFOOT GYPSIES INTERVIEW IN EYES & EARS AUGUST 2015
Zack: Thanks! The response has been great! Everybody I talk to seems to really dig the new tunes. I had somebody tell me today how much they loved the addition of Dylan and Ollie Dogg. I’d have to agree that they really complete the vision that Matthew and I had when we started this band.

E&E: I like the line on your website, that you make “Music you can believe in, not just fall for;” how do you keep this artistic integrity?

Matthew: It’s pretty easy as long as you don’t fall for any shortcuts. You have to actually go out and play shows, write the songs, do the practice, drive the van, sleep where and when you can, more or less WORK for your stripes. Earn your fans, 1 at a time. No using “likes generators” to get your social media number up, even though they’re fake people from Malaysia. Always remember your roots, and the reason you started down this road, and remember them often. And always remind yourself that this is the reason you’re on earth, even though it’s an uphill battle nearly the whole way. Build the house, don’t buy it.

Zack: Do whatever the **** you want. There should be no set rules for what you put out as art. Everybody throws around the whole “sell-out” thing, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what you do as long as it’s what YOU want to do.

We make music that simply comes out of us. We enjoy it so why would we do anything else? If you want to go on American Idol then doing that is keeping within your idea of being an artist with integrity. I personally don’t really fit in the American Idol thing so that would be unnatural for me to take that route. I prefer to just make albums with my friends and then hop in a van and travel around the world with them to play our songs for people. Long story short – if you feel in your gut that what you’re doing is “selling-out” then you probably are. Otherwise, just get outta your own head and do it.

"Radio Creds" are votes awarded to artists by radio programmers who have downloaded their music and have been impressed with the artist's professionalism and the audience's response to the new music. Creds help artists advance through the AirPlay Direct community.

Only radio accounts may add a Radio Cred. One week after the track has been downloaded the radio account member will receive an email requesting a Cred for each artist they've downloaded.
