The gist of the song is this. The protagonist , the guy singing the song, is best friends with his brother-in-law, the husband of his wife’s little sister. It breaks his heart when he finds out his wife is having an affair with this best friend, meanwhile he’s been screwing his wife’s little sister, the one who is married to his best friend, you know, the guy who is having an affair with his wife. How could they do him like that?

Back around 1983, I was 22 years old and I was in the Navy. Back then I was still drinking, and when I drank, I drank a lot. In addition to being a drunk, I was also a scumbag with few morals.

That's not true. Actually, I had morals, I felt bad about a lot of the stuff that I did, but that didn’t keep me from doing those things. One night, I was drunk in what I referred to as "My Bar", the Green Wheel Inn, known by many as The Green Teeth Inn, on Little Creek Blvd in Norfolk Virginia, an area known for it righteousness, and I met the most wonderful woman, which meant she was interested in having sex with me.

Several pitchers of beer later, we were in love. At this point she decided to leave her husband and to move in with me. My best friend and I were renting this little cottage out in Oceanview, which at that time was kind of a White Trash Ghetto. It wasn’t a bad place to live once you got used to then gunshots.

One day I came home from work and all of my stuff was sitting out on the front porch. My best friend had just gotten himself a new girlfriend, my girlfriend.

I ended up getting drunk, asking myself, how could she do to me what she had done to her husband? Didn’t she realize that I loved every bone in her body...except for his?
