Amanda Fish is an Indie Blues artist from Kansas City who scratched her name into the scene as a solo artist before teaming up with slide guitarist and Stone Cutters Union frontman Sean McDonnell to form the Amanda Fish Band in May 2014. The pair penned DOWN IN THE DIRT, a concept album consisting of intensely personal lyrics branching into multiple genres while still firmly rooted in Blues. Rounding out the current lineup are guitarist Cole Dillingham, bassist Cliff Moore, and new drummer Adam Watson. The band features Amanda’s spellbinding vocals alongside hypnotic, slide-heavy guitar riffs locked into a sturdy groove, giving this quintet their unique and compelling sound.
“I’ve rarely heard a singer who can bring such a wide range of emotions from sweet, forlorn, strong, desperate and shattered. Her original songs are a showcase for Amanda’s soul and expression and range. I am moved.”
—BOB MARGOLIN
Amanda Fish is the latest artist to break out nationally from the fertile ground of the Kansas City music scene, which also spawned her sister Samantha and the popular (recently disbanded) Trampled Under Foot — whose former drummer, Kris Schnebelen, holds down the drum seat on DOWN IN THE DIRT. Other local heroes featured on the album include nationally acclaimed harmonica player Brody Buster, bassists Cliff Moore and Derek Tucker, guitarists Coyote Bill and Matt Peters, fiddler Jacob Hiser, and keyboardists Liam Goodrick and Tyson Leslie.
DOWN IN THE DIRT is an all-original album, based in large part on Amanda’s own real-life experiences with homelessness, abuse, and dysfunction – yet ending on a note of strength, survival and revelation.
