Desert Flowers
Lately I've been thinkin 'bout the summer when I lost my mind
must have been holes in my pockets, couldn't keep a thing inside
we got lost in the desert on the way to Cedarville, California
drinking beer in the passenger seat all those scorched and empty miles

Is it the empty that I miss?
Or the dreams that bloom like desert flowers into the abyss
I had so much nothing I had everything
and the nights were pure and wild and dimly lit

Please, hold me
until I'm home
hold me
not far to go
take the bridge cross the highway get a cup of coffee and a plate of hushpuppies/ a candy bar
and we'll be back back back on the road

You say there's time, there's always time
and then there's never time
wind up sitting by the pier in San Francisco crying
and those big ideas get heavy so you lay 'em down
you'll believe anybody with the nerve to tell you you'll be fine

Please, hold me
until I'm home
hold me
not far to go
take the bridge cross the highway get a cup of coffee and a plate of hushpuppies/ a candy bar
and we'll be back back back on the road

I know you thought that we'd be lovers
sometimes I can't remember what we weren't for
you were so good at picking up the pieces
but I'm not falling apart anymore

Please, hold me
until I'm home
hold me
not far to go
take the bridge cross the highway get a cup of coffee and a plate of hushpuppies/ a candy bar
and we'll be back back back on the road
