Great Confession
Putting these old pictures into frames
giving these old ghosts names
everything used to have its place
now you're living out of a new suitcase
Trying to make a new friend
suddenly you're back at school again
trying to hide how bad you could use a song
like a house, been empty much too long
Ain't it a crime the way the years go rolling by?
once you had nothing but time and time was nothing
now you're up at dawn just waiting on another great confession/ now you're staring at the business end of all your bad decisions
don't it seem like there should be some kind of lesson/ some kind of wisdom?
Sometimes when I watch her sleep
I know how you feel when you look at me
you spent all that time trying to keep me safe
now I know how hard a heart can break
When you're looking joy in the eye and all you feel is sadness
so afraid to lose it doesn't matter that you ever had it
Ain't it a crime the way the years go rolling by?
once you had nothing but time and time was nothing
now you're up at dawn just waiting on another great confession/ now you're staring at the business end of all your bad decisions
don't it seem like there should be some kind of lesson/ some kind of wisdom?
