Timothy Scott - Screen Door (ft Thomm Jutz & Tim Crouch)
“Screen Door” is the song to listen to while sipping a drink on your screen porch and watching the world go by, brought to life by Timothy Scott’s unique southern tenor vocals and the expert musicianship of Tim Crouch and Thomm Jutz.
After retiring from 33 years with the US Postal Service, Timothy Scott moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia with his wife and frequent cowriter Sarah. The first song the couple wrote after settling onto their new screen porch with their two rescue dogs was “Screen Door” – a reflection of the easy-going lifestyle they hoped was waiting for them.
Like the songs of another singing mailman, John Prine, “Screen Door” is deceptively simple. A closer listen reveals lyrics that gently impart the kind of rocking-chair wisdom that comes only from experience, such as “Like dandelion seeds when the wind starts blowing, some friends drift on but just look at my lawn, new ones always are growing.”
These lessons are delivered by Timothy with relaxed tenor vocals that bare his North Carolina roots. But don’t expect a song that will lull you to sleep – “Screen Porch” swings from the start when Tim Crouch begins fiddling…add the expert picking of Thomm Jutz on guitar, a bit of mandolin and standup bass, and you have a song that will appeal far beyond bluegrass and folk audiences.
Growing up in Charlotte, NC, Timothy Scott taught himself guitar as a teen and began writing his own songs at UNC. Now living in Saint Simons Island, Georgia, Tim frequently co-writes with his wife Sarah. He has twice been selected for the IBMA songwriter showcase.
