On “Happy Independence Day,” an uptempo, rootsy, blues tune, Josie Bello wishes everyone a Happy Independence Day, while taking jabs at what have become the hallmarks of American summer celebrations--bbq and beer!

Her lyrics take a sarcastic jab at how Americans are celebrating their independence while beholden, yet indifferent, to the economic and social problems of our time-- including political corruption, food insecurity, gun violence, under-employment, and disparity in truth-telling by cable news commentators.

Josie Bello is a singer-songwriter from Long Island with three studio albums and several singles to her credit. Her last two albums— Resilience (2022) and Have Purpose Live Long (2020) have appeared on the FAI Folk Chart. Josie’s vocals and songwriting style have been compared to Mary Chapin Carpenter and Lucinda Williams.

Bello recorded “Happy Independence Day” with members of her group, The Kit House Band. In addition to lead vocal, Josie plays keys on the track; her husband Frank Bello is on bass with Mike Nugent on electric guitar, and Shawn Cullinane on acoustic guitar and backing vocals. Shawn Murray is on drums. Mike Nugent recorded and produced “Happy Independence Day,” which Kevin Kelly mixed and mastered at The Workshoppe East Studio in Huntington, NY.
