Edgar Loudermilk Band - The Deal That Won't Go Down
Edgar Loudermilk wrote “The Deal That Won't Go Down” with long time collaborator and bandmate Zack Autry. “We were traveling through the beautiful state of Colorado,” Loudermilk recalls, “and we found ourselves in a snowstorm. We were headed out of Denver on I-70, and when we saw those big majestic canyon walls, it put us in the mindset to write a western-style cowboy song about a roving gambler who falls for a girl he could never tame. He finds betrayal and plays his hand wrong. We wrote this cowboy song inspired by the essence of the ‘Old West Card Game.’”
“The Deal That Won’t Goes Down” appears on Edgar Loudermilk Band’s 2022 album, The Dark Side of Lonesome. It spotlights a collection of traditional favorites and new originals, all steeped in the rich flavor of their style of American roots music.
A Louvin Brothers’ descendant, Loudermilk started in the family band at age 9, developing his masterful bass and songwriting skills. With his down-home style, distinctive vocals, and powerful storytelling forge a genuine connection with listeners. He performed as a member of award-winning groups Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, and Marty Raybon & Full Circle before forming Edgar Loudermilk Band in 2016.
“I see songwriting as just as much of a calling as singing,” says Loudermilk, who has penned songs reaching the top of the Bluegrass Today and Bluegrass Unlimited charts. “Playing and singing live is always a good time, and we love the audiences, but connecting with people through relatable and meaningful songwriting is very rewarding.”
Edgar Loudermilk Band’s 2019 album Lonesome Riverboat Blues reached “Most Played” on SiriusXM’s “Bluegrass Junction” in July of 2019. The album remained in Bluegrass Today’s Top 20 Airplay Charts for twelve consecutive weeks.
