This Irvin Mayfield/Kermit Ruffins' collaboration is one of the most robust productions of the
record. Inspired by Mayfield’s relationship with guitarist/singer Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead,
it features two drummers, percussion, string chamber ensemble, big band, and a tremendous
amount of hip hop artist T-Pain-inspired auto tune, alongside two trumpet soloists in the mix.
Mayfield employs the effect of a harmon mute and Ruffins’ trumpet is augmented with the
electric delayed effects reminiscent of Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew album. If psychedelics and
cannabis were music, this is what they would sound like.
