Pilgrim
The pilgrim came from far away
Down by the river’s side
Taking a look around he sees
His illusion in the breeze
The water deep and the water wide
Down by the riverside
He swore, by God, he’d make a stand
In the country of endless sand

The pilgrim cursed the water ways
Down by the riverside
Made him a plan to build a barge
One dollar was the crossing charge
There’s not much trade on this desert trail
Down by the river’s side
The sun shines hot and the days drag on
And he hums a spiteful song

When angry men meet angry men
Down by the rivers side
Denied his silver, got paid in lead
The rivers now streaked in red
A long time now he’s turned to soap
Down by the river side
An angry life, There’s no repeats
What’s carried is what you keep
