Biography
Growing up, moving back and forth between Tel-Aviv - Israel, and Montreal - Canada, 2i was always exposed to many different musical styles. As his grandfather was an orchestra conductor, he was born into a very musical family. As a teen, he was mainly influenced by hip hop music, listening to artists such as Tupac Shakur, Eminem, Bone Thugs n harmony, Wyclef Jean, Snoop Dogg and the list goes on.
At the age of 13, he auditioned to be part of a musical group in Tel Aviv. Instead of singing he volunteered a freestyle and was immediately accepted to the group. This is where his musical journey begun; constantly writing songs, recording in studios and performing for big crowds since such a young age. The band later on went to perform in China and LA to represent their country.
In his early 20s he started his solo music career as a hip hop artist under the name Jack Pot. He enjoyed local success with his music playing on regular rotation on a multitude of local radio stations. His Video for the song youth was also featured on hiphopcanada.ca and local TV stations.
Over the last few years, his passion for music has evolved in a different direction. Due to changes in his personal life, 2i has been away from the music scene for the past 5 years. During that period, 2i started increasingly listening to reggae / dancehall music and consequently being influenced to write such music. This is how Jack Pot`s dancehall alter-ego, 2i, came about. “I can only write when I’m inspired, and this is the music that inspires me”, says the artist.
2i has performed as an opening act for several dancehall artists in Montreal, including big names such as Demarco, Busy Signal and Mr. Vegas. According to 2i, “the crowd never knows what to expect when they see this white boy from Montreal go on stage to do his dancehall thing”. When 2i takes the stage, he brings the element of surprise with him. “By the time the night ends, everyone in the crowd remembers my performances and most skeptics will be the first ones to come up to me after shows to congratulate me. I live for these moments, for these performances. I love dancehall crowds because they`re real. Whether you’re good or bad – they’ll let you know!”
Now is 2i`s time to shine! His mixtape entitled: “2i - The Mixtape” is set to be released in the summer of 2016. The mixtape, hosted by Don Ignorance from Little Thunder Sound, is full of raw dancehall vibes with an occasional twist of hip hop and R n B. Keep an eye out for this versatile dancehall artist from Montreal and his upcoming mixtape, it promises to be like nothing you’ve heard before!
